Wakanda mania has taken over pop culture and now it is making it's way to the Oscar stage. The first majority Black superhero Marvel movie continues to break the glass ceiling being the first superhero movie to be nominated for Best Picture.
"Black Panther" is up against "BlackKkKlansman," "Bohemian Rhapsody," "The Favourite," "Green Book," "A Star is Born" and "Vice." The superhero film that came closest to snagging a Best Picture nomination was "The Dark Knight" back in 2009, but it didn't make the category to many people's dismay.
The Ryan Coogler-directed film is also nominated for Best Costume Design, Best Original Song, Best Original Score, Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing and Best Production Design. The film was able to gross $400 million domestically and $1.3 billion internationally making it the third highest grossing film in the country behind "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Avatar."
