The first question that may pop into your head after seeing this picture is, "Why?"

This photo is the result of a Roosevelt Middle School's problematic classroom project. The photo shows two nooses with poorly placed, cringeworthy "Ha" and smiley face stickers along with what look like a sticker saying, "#YES". The nooses were supposed to represent back to school necklaces. NBC News reported that the photo was part of a larger display in the classroom.

To add insult to injury, the majority of students at Roosevelt are minorities. Around 49 percent of students are Black and 50 percent are Hispanic.

The picture went viral after Pastor Arthur Mackey Jr. of Mount Sinai Baptist Church Cathedral posted it on Facebook.

The Roosevelt School district said, "appropriate action" has been taken against three teachers. They have been put on paid administrative leave.

"The Roosevelt School District is aware of the inappropriate conduct at the Roosevelt Middle School," said the district in a statement. "The Board of Education was made aware of this incident on Thursday, Feb. 7, 2019, an investigation was immediately initiated and appropriate action taken. The Board of Education has zero tolerance for the display of racially offensive images."

This Black History Month just seems to be the month of calling out racial insensitivity. This incident along with Gucci's Blackface sweater and Prada's display have proven that racism is an issue that we still deal with and we have a long way to go.
