By now you've probably heard or read President Donald Trump's racist tweets. If not, you can read them below:
The women who have been at the center of Trump's racist statements are Reps. Ayanna Pressley (D-MA), Ilhan Omar (D-MN), Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-MI). They have not been afraid to speak their mind when it comes to the current administration, and yesterday was no different.
During a press conference on Capitol Hill, the four women, known as "the squad," condemned Trump and continued to hold their ground backing up their criticisms of his immigration stance, economic policies, and overall behavior.
Rep. Pressley urged everyone to not fall into the trap, as Trump is using his bold statements to take the focus off of his actions.
“This is a distraction and we should not take the bait,” said Rep. Pressley. “This is simply a disruption and a distraction from the callous, chaotic and corrupt culture of this administration, all the way down. We want to get back to the business of the American people.”
Republicans have been slow to criticize the president's remarks, but some such as Geraldo Rivera and Lindsay Graham have publicly disagreed with Trump. But not surprisingly, they have used qualifiers that make their condemnation seem more like coddling.
“Mr. President, you’re going to win, just knock it down a notch,” said Graham on "Fox & Friends." “We all know that AOC and this crowd are a bunch of communists."
Rep. Tlaib expressed little shock at the president's tweets and believes this will not be the end of Trump and his administration's discriminatory ways.
"Sadly, this is not the first nor will it be the last time we hear disgusting, bigoted language from the president," said Tlaib. "We know this is who he is, and we know that he and his administration are constantly engaged in actions that harm residents and American people in our country."
