According to the Suffolk County Police, the man who was accused of stealing a bike from a young African-American boy and hurling racial slurs in Deer Park has been arrested.
After re-interviewing 15-year-old Zy’aire Robinson, and several others, Robert Bishop, 36, of Deer Park was arrested for second degree robbery, which is a felony.
"Bishop came and started yelling at everyone," said one witness who filmed the altercation and said Bishop threatened to smack some of the kids across the face. "He was acting really crazy and grabbed at the bike. He pushed Zy down and Zy was really upset."
The witness said he did not hear racial slurs due to the commotion. Zy’aire's mother Delphia Robinson still believes that robbery isn't enough and that additional charges should be filed.
"I want him fully charged with every crime that he committed," said Robinson to News 12. "I do believe that he assaulted my son even though I was told there are no physical bruises on him so he can't be charged with assault. But he put his hands on a minor, he's 15 and you can't go around putting your hands on somebody else's children, let alone a minor."
The police also said that they will be holding Zy’aire's bike as evidence and will return it to him once it is cleared.
We reached out to Bishop prior to his arrest, but he declined to comment on the situation.
